Industrial Directive at the Day Care Unit
There are several issues at the Day Care Unit which is causing several burnouts on the nursing staff and it is evident that this unit is being used as a dumping ground even though there is lack of nursing staff.
MUMN has been informed that recently all ENT cases, plastics and Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies have been transferred to the Day Care Unit. This is not acceptable and not in agreement with MUMN and therefore as from the 27th October 2021 from 7am onwards, MUMN is issuing a Directive that all ENT cases, plastics and Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies cases are to be refused and not processed at the Day Care Unit.
There was never any agreement with MUMN that ENT and LEPT cases are to be transferred to the Day Care Unit.
It is clear for MUMN, that the agreed nursing compliment of 6 nurses in surgery and 6 nurses in Endoscopy is not being kept. When such nursing compliment is not met, MUMN is issuing a directive to all nurses, that if the above staff compliment is not met, the lists would not start. Lists are only to start when the staff compliment is reached. Such Directive will also come into effect on the 27th October 2021 from 7am onwards.
Regarding that the night shift nurses, such nurses are being constrained to remain in Day Care Unit due that patients are still taken up to surgery very late in the afternoon. MUMN is issuing a directive that the patients returning from surgery after 4.00 pm. will not be accepted back to Day Care Unit. Such patients will have to be taken up by bed management and taken to the wards. MUMN is issuing a directive that such patients would be refused to be placed back in Day Surgery. Only local anesthetic patients will be accepted back after 4.00 pm. This will guarantee that the staff will not need to remain working after normal working hours.
This directive will also come into effect on the 27th October 2021 from 7am onwards.
