Notice to all Nurses working in The A&E Department.

A meeting was held with MDH management regarding the health and safety of the nurses working in the A&E department.

Contrary to the understanding that G4S are not to handle violent patients, MDH management assured MUMN that it is the duty of all G4S personnel to handle aggressive and non-cooperative patients. In this regard, all G4S had signed an SOP regarding the handling of such patients. Any G4S who do not abide by the policy will be removed from the A&E department.

As regards to when the police escort aggressive patients to the A&E department, a meeting with the Police Commissioner is to take place. Additionally, MUMN insisted during the meeting that a handover of any patients brought by the police to the A&E department is to take place with the A&E security. On such handover, MDH management is in agreement.

MUMN pointed out that any aggressive patients might be armed with a lethal weapon and this could have severe consequences to the nurses working in the A&E department. In fact, MUMN insisted that any known aggressive and non-cooperative person brought by the police to the A&E department is to be searched for any weapons since the repercussions can be much more severe.

MUMN is encouraging all nurses working in the A&E department to notify any violent actions on the nurses and to inform MUMN if any G4S did not intervene with such patients.

Will keep you updated after the meeting with the Police Commissioner.

Regards,

MUMN Council
