Nurses and midwives who work with the public service will be benefitting from substantial improvements in their work conditions thanks to a sectoral agreement which was signed on Thursday afternoon between the Health Ministry and the nurses and midwives’ union, the MUMN.

In a statement issued by the Health Ministry, it was stated that the five-year agreement will come into effect on 1 January of next year and will remain in effect until the end of December 0f 2022. It also deals with measures which encourage members of the profession to advance in their career.

Following the signing of the agreement, the Deputy PM and Health Minister Chris Fearne said that it was reached just a few days after Malta was classified in ninth place for its health services from among 195 countries.

The agreement was signed by the Permanent Secretary at the Health Ministry, Mr Joe Rapa, and the Chief Government Doctor, Dr Denis Vella Baldacchino on behalf of the Government, and the President and Secretary General of the MUMN Maria Cutajar and Colin Galea respectively on behalf of the MUMN in the presence of the Deputy PM and Health Minister Chris Fearne.
